AB - Grape seed extract (GSE), a material consisting of seeds of grapes (Vitis vinifera), is gaining acceptance as having numerous medicinal and therapeutic uses. High in polyphenols, flavonoids as well as proanthocyanidins, GSE has multifaceted pharmacological effects that have placed it as a prominent prospect in contemporary medical science. This brief communication looks into the possible uses of grape seed in different medical conditions, with an overview of its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, cardiovascular, neuroprotective & antimicrobial properties. However, before the benefits of grape seed extract can be fully realized for clinical uses, more exploration needs to be done on the aspects of the extract that enhances its bioavailability and the accurate dose to be prescribed and the risks that comes with it. Recent research has also confirmed the visibility of GSE in many other preclinical and clinical applications and its effectiveness as yet, long term outcomes and standard preparation methods need to be developed for GSE to be prescribed frequently in the medical field. Therefore, grape seed extract is a therapeutic molecule with diverse prospects in treatment offering potentials in oncology, cardiology, neurology, and so on. Its natural source along with its effective bioactive compounds put it’s into limelight to be a part of solution for future medicine. Grape seed has many medical uses, and this short review outlines the major advantages of the product.
